Some artists have a way of grabbing your attention without doing too much, and Merges is one of them. Originally from South Dakota, the singer and songwriter moved to Nashville at just 16 to pursue music before eventually making her way to Los Angeles. Her journey has helped shape a sound that sits somewhere between alternative R&B, soul, and experimental production.
What makes Merges particularly interesting is her approach to songwriting and vocal arrangements. Her music blends airy melodies, layered vocal textures, and subtle production choices with lyrics that explore vulnerability, relationships, and the complexities of human emotion. There’s an unpredictability to her sound that makes you curious about what she’ll create next.
Her breakout record, “cool_v2,” featuring production from Kaelin Ellis, helped introduce her to a wider audience, while recognition from Pigeons & Planes as an Artist to Watch in 2025 further established her as an emerging talent worth paying attention to.
Most recently, Merges released her latest single, “Another State,” adding another record to her growing catalog. The release gives listeners another opportunity to get familiar with her artistry and follow the direction she’s taking with her music.
As alternative R&B continues to evolve, Merges is among the artists bringing something different to the conversation. She’s building a catalog that deserves exploration, and if she isn’t already on your radar, now would be a good time to get familiar.
